Black Caps Beat India.

WALT read and report.

Today for S.S.R I was reading about how the Aotearoa Black Caps beat the Men In Blue by a smashing 20 runs in the fourth one-day  cricket international in Ranchi. It now means that the results for the five-match series is 2-2. New Zealand batted first and scored 260 with Martin Guptill who scored 72 points, Kane Williamson who scored 41 points and Tom Latham who scored 39 points giving New Zealand a smashing total. Chasing 261 for a series clinching win, India were all out for 241 with eight balls to spare. India looked firmly n the driver's seat at 127 for 2 but a small batting collapse saw the hosts reduced to 167-7 in the space of a few overs. India never recovered from this and fell 19 runs short. The two teams will now make their way to Visakhapatnam for the series decider on Sunday.
All I have to say now is Congrats Black Caps & Good luck to both teams for on Sunday.
I hope you enjoyed reading.

Kia ora.

Follow Up Task - Reading

WALT: think critically about texts with increasing understanding and confidence.
This week for reading, our article is based on a teenager named Brando whose goal was to walk around the coast of Aotearoa. He had a lot of support while doing this. Reasons why he chose to do this? Well first of all because it was one of his goals and other was to fundraise for the "Ronald McDonald House" at Auckland Hospital. In the end, he succeeded. He was so proud of himself, his family was proud of him also. After reading through the text 3x, our task was to "write down three things you've learnt about yourself over this past year". I've completed my task. Here it is below :

"What are three things I've learnt this year?"

Well the first thing would have to be my new Kapa Haka waiata and our new haka.
Some of the new waiata that we've learnt over the past few months are "Ko Waiata", "Kiko Tirohia", "Tena Ra Koutou" and more. The haka that we've been learning is "Manini Waka" and soon to be another one. Kapa haka has been such a fun experience this year especially since we've met 2 new wonderful tutors, Waiama & Tamehana. Wai is so funny and bright, she is a tutor-in-learning and she's just so fun to be around. Tame is so serious but really really fun at times. Unfortunately Tame had to move to Hamilton for his university stuff. Hopefully we see more of him in the future. They both went to the Aotearoa International Kapa haka Competition with their whanau kapa haka. They've been pretty successful. Waiama went to italy, rome, dubai and many other places to perform for different groups. She said she had such a blast. One thing that I've struggled with this year while being in kapa haka would have to be interacting with my peers. I'm so use to my old kapa haka group and the people in it, I found it really hard to get use to the people I had to work with. In the end I got use to everybody and now I've settled in completely. It's getting better now. In the middle I actually started to dislike it because all my main friends had moved away. But in the end they all came back. I really enjoy kapa haka now, I can't wait to wear our new costumes at our end of the year "Fia Fia In The Park".

The second thing would have to be technology. This year was pretty different to what happen last year with technology. Instead of having our technology here at school, we moved it to Tamaki College. To attend technology, we had to pay the fair which was $40. Fortunately I paid my fair in term 4 so I was fine. The three groups each year 7 & 8 student has to attend at technology is Cooking, Hard Materials and Graphics. The groups that I've fully complete and attened are cooking and hard materials. I am now in the middle of Graphics with Miss Ferguson. In cooking we made delicious meals. In hard materials I made a pewter necklace out of medal. The design I chose to do was a star. Reason for that? Well the idea of the necklace was to choose someone special in your life to make it for and I chose my brother Arapeta. My brother was like my hero and my superstar. He was kind of like a rugby star so I linked everything up and make connections with it. I really enjoyed technology this year. One thing I think I need to work on would have to be being prepared for technology every thursday morning. I seem to be coming into class at the wrong times and getting myself into trouble so hopefully I can change that.

S.S.R : How Much Screen Time Should We Get ?

What is the right amount of screen time should our kids have these days?

WALT read and report.

Today for S.S.R the article I was reading about was called "How Much Screen Time Should We Get?
Here's a couple of things I picked up while reading the article:

New Guidelines have been updated to give parents an idea of acceptable screen time. The American Academy of Pediatrics has just issued new suggestions around how much time people should spend watching television and on social media. First thing, they said that on a sunny day, there's small excuse for children being stuck to their devices. However, they've realised that electronic devices are actually really important.  Therefore they put together these guidelines:

- Kids under the age of 18 months should NOT be allowed any screen time.
- Ages from 2 - 5 should only be allowed 1 hour a day & it should be something educational.
-  Any children older than the age of 6, parents should decide.

However, Aotearoa's ministry of education has said that children from the age of 5 to 18 should actually spend less than 2 hours a day - that doesn't include school hours in front of a t.v and on any type of device.

Well that's all the information I have for you today.
I hope you enjoyed reading.

Maori Reflection

WALT reflect previous reflection.

Today was our second-to-last rad rhythm session.
We had an exam.
It was pretty intense when we first found out we were going to be doing a test but we found it okay.
Some of the questions were really unexpected. Like the first one was "What's another word for a measure?". I was so lost, I didn't even know the answer so I skipped it. I was really familiar with some of the questions so I answered them easily. Here are some of the questions we received with some answers:

How many beats in a full note ?
There are 4 beats in a full note.

How many beats in a half note ?
There are2 beats in a half note.

What's it called when you write a song?
Notation or Composition.

There are three questions.
I really enjoyed music today.
ONe thing I loved the most about today's session were the 3 people I worked with, Raena, Mana and Metui. They were pretty helpful to me in the end.
One thing I think I need to work on is answering more questions faster.
NExt week I hope we do something fun or even practise our performance piece.
I hope you enjoyed reading.

Celebration Reflection

WALA celebrations.
This week in class we've been learning about Celebrations.
We did a bus stop activity with heaps of different groups with heaps of different questions.

Here are some of the questions we had to answer:

What is celebrating and what does it mean?
Celebrating means spending quality time with your family, celebrating things in a traditional way and doing things special.

Why do we celebrate?
Because it's a way of remembrance, a day of tradition and a day of family.

How do I celebrate?
FOOD, GAMES & FAMILY.

How does celebrating me you feel?
For me, it makes me feel loved and welcomed when celebrations are happening.

How does celebrating help us in our learning?
Celebrating helps us with cultural language weeks. For example like week, how we're celebrating Niuean Language Week.

How do our values help us celebrate?
By showing "Tukumarie" at different celebrations by respecting all different cultures.

When do we celebrate?
For me three of my most important dates are 25th December, 1st January and 12th June. Christmas, New Years & Matariki ( Maori New Year )

Is Celebrating Important?
Of course celebrating important because as I said, it's a time of remembrance, and a time of quality time with your family and friends.

There are the questions and some answers for you.
I hope you enjoyed reading.

Samsung Gone Wrong !

SAMSUNG GONE WRONG !

Omg Guys!
Samsung are no longer selling the newest version of Galaxy Note 7 !
Cause of this ? Because the rumour is, that the "Miracle Phone" has been catching on fire. It was not the first time it happened. The advised customers to turn off the phones and stop using it. In September, the company recalled 2.5 million of them after receiving complaints about the battery exploding. It now appears that the replacement devices may also be faulty, and customers may be advised to turn them off.
Samsung is still investigating, but it's most likely that the problem is to do with the battery. Many smartphones are being powered by "Lithium-Ion Batteries", which are special typed rechargeable batteries. Most companies use them because they allow them to make the phone smaller, more efficient and charge faster. However, this battery has been known to be pretty unstable and may even catch into flames or even explode. Samsung have said that people who purchased and owned the Note 7's are able to return the phone and swap it for another Samsung phone.
Some airlines, like Air New Zealand say you cannot fly with Samsung Phones.
Well that's all the info I have for you today.
I hope you enjoy reading.

Music Reflection

WALT reflect on previous sessions.
Today in Music we were had a workout session.
Not a gym type of workout session, A book type of session.
We're up to Session 15 in our Rad Rhythm.
I sat and worked together with Raena.
We learnt a lot of new things today.
The drum style of the day was CABASA
The percussion instrument of the day was the NaniGo.
After we were given the drum style and the percussion instrument we did a little throwback at all the hand clap beats we did.
After that Caleb gave us an activity to do.
the activity was to make a short beat up, write it down and give to to another group to try and solve.
In my group it was only me and Raena but we came up with a pretty solid beat.
I had a lot of fun in music today.
Maybe next time we could practise our performance piece so we're use to it.

Australia vs New Zealand Kiwis

WALT research about different articles on kiwikidsnews.co.nz.

Today for S.S.R, instead of searching about different places in the world, Ms Komor decided we will be going onto Kiwi Kids News and selecting an article to Cover and Report. Today I have chosen to report on the Article on the Rugby League one-off test against the Australian Kangaroos and the Aotearoa Kiwis.  Unfortunately the Kiwis did not do their best in the test match.. We lost by 20 points. The final score was 26-6. Australia finished off with a smashing try from Greg inglis before being named the "Man Of The Match". In was a smashing game. The Kiwis came home with nothing but disappointment and more hope while the Aussies get ready for their next game in England later on this month.
But the Kiwis will avenge themselves.
But for now, Hard Luck Fam !
Good Luck for your next game Kangaroos.

I hope you enjoy.

Utah Facts ! x

WALT reflect on previous sessions.
Today for S.S.R we were researching about Utah.
DId you know that Utah is the 12th largest state in America ?
Oh my gosh guys. Utah is such a great place to visit. I have not been there myself but I have a friend who has been there. His name is Fa'amanu. He has just got back from a holiday in America. He visited heaps of different places.
He said he love his experience.

Music Reflection 🎤 🎧 🎼 🎹 🎷 🎺

WALT
Today was our first music session for Term 4. It was so fun !
We did a revision on what we did last time we were in the music room with Caleb.
Then after that we had a little game of “DON’T CLAP THIS ONE BACK”.

The people who had turns at being the “DON’T CLAP THIS ONE BACK PERSON” were Ana, Metui and Caleb. Metui got the most people down.
One of my favorite clap mix that MEtui made was his *CLAP* *CLAP* *STOMP* *STOMP* *DAB*. That mix got most people out.
Then after that we got into our performance piece.
We learnt 2 new parts of performance pieces that were added at the end of our performance. I did now find the names of those pieces unfortunately.
Our performance piece is pretty complicated. Well first of all this is what we're doing for our performance:
1. Lid Spin.
2. Lid Slam.
3. Play the beats.
4. Gimme Five.
5. Rotation beats.
6. Ziggy Ziggy Ziggy.
7. 1-4 click.
8. Middle, Right, Cross over !
It's actually really cool when you do it altogether.
Here is a video of us practising👇

I hope you enjoy watching it .

Two things our class needs to work on is getting exactly the right timing and listening to Caleb when he tell us to stop.

I had a lot of fun today.
Hopefully next time we start on our projects.
My highlight of the day would have to be searching about all the different type of sided shapes because I learnt some things I didn't know about in the past.

15 Minutes Freetime

We had just come back from Morning Tea. We were supposed to go down to the library but unfortunately there were already people using it so we didn't know what to do. Ms Komor gave up the choice to choose what we wanted to do. It was also my friend Metui's birthday. We all got the opportunity to put our hands up and choose what wen wanted to do for 15 minutes. Since it was Metui's birthday  Ms Komor let him choose what we were gonna do. He chose to go outside and have free time. I went with the boys and played rugby while the girls played on the playground. The game was pretty tight. There was only 7 people in each team. In my team there was Fa'amanu, Gary, Kenneth, Metui, Mana, Vuni and I. In the opposite team there was Metui, Royd,  Sifa, Sene, Matthew and more. After the game our team got grief after we lost. When we got back to class we started making reflections about what we did. I had a lot of fun outside today. I just have more thing to say:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR METUIIIII, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.
HIP HIP, HOORAY .
HIP HIP, HOORAY .
HIP HIP, HOORAY .

I hope you enjoy reading.

WALT research about different places in the world.

Today I didn't have my netbook on me so I buddied up with Gary.
I know as a year 7 student that I should be prepared and work independently but I really had no choice but to work with somebody on this.
Did you know that there are three national anthems that Jamaica sing?
Its so interesting.
Maybe tomorrow we could research another interesting place.

Kiwican ! x

Today was our first day back at school and I'm so excited.
Wa also had our first Kiwi Can session. It was so fun. We did a couple of activities * games based on our 4 main school values. Rangimarie ( Peace ), Tuku Marie ( Tolerance ), Manaakitanga ( Caring for others) and Whanaungatanga ( Building Relationships ). We discussed how we could show these values at home, school or in your community. Here are some examples:

Rangimarie: You may have friends that have beef. It can annoy you a lot because you may plan a lot of things but they don't go to plan because of your friends arguments.  So get them to sit down and talk. They can sort some stuff our like that. It may get a little loud but the volume will drop. Trust me I've been in your situation several times. Get them to say sorry to each other and everything will be fine.
P E A C E  I T  O U T !

Tukumarie: There may be students at your school with different beliefs. Respect those beliefs ! Don't just hate or dislike somebody because they're different. Nobody's the same, everybody's unique and different in their own way !

Manaakitanga: It you're playing a game or something with your friends and somebody asks to play but your friends say no, encourage your friends to let them play so nobody feels left out.

Whanaungatanga: There can be new kids arriving anytime. Build relationships with them and start a good name for your classroom & school.

There are some examples. Here is a couple of questions...

How can you show these values in your home or community?
1. Help with chores, show some integrity ya'll.
2. Be kind and show respect to everyone in your family.
3. Pick up rubbish, help cover graffiti, and help make you community a better place.

What games were we playing when Mr. M was pointing the spoon?
We did not know the name of the game so we made on up. "THE VALUE SOUP". We named it that because we had a spoon and we had values so we linked them together and got creative.

What did you enjoy at Kiwi Can the most?
The things I  enjoyed the most today in Kiwi Can was watching everybody's role plays to examples of how you can show values outside. My favourite role play would've had to be the boys one because they had a lot of creative and it was a lot of fun to watch. Also it cracked me up.

What did your group share? A rap? A poem? A role play ?
My group decided to do a role play about Rangimarie. It was about 2 boys having a rap battle then one of the boys take it too far and starts going into it too serious and personal. The other boy got offended then started a fight. 2 girls and one boy run in from the crowd and stop the fight. They discuss things and it's alright. But unfortunately our role play didn't go to plan.

Explain and describe what one of the other groups did.
The boys group was about one being drunk and he starts seeing things then he thinks he sees a hot girl ( cheeka ) and he starts to flirt out loud with. Some other dude starts arguing with him over the "cheeka" but really its a man. The two drunk men start to fight and then the "Cheeka"stops it. Then the drunks go "ooooo hello mami" and the "cheeka" said "Dude, I'm a guy" and then the first drunken was like "Damnnnn Daaannniiieelllll" and then the 'cheeka' stopped the fight and then all the arguing was over.

I had a lot of fun at Kiwi Can today.
Hopefully next week we have 2x more fun.
