Heart Foundation Reflection

WALT: reflect on previous sessions.

Today, a nutritionist from The Heart Foundation came in to teach us and inform us on the four different food groups. Something I enjoyed about this session was that it gave us a lot of information and we unlocked much new and interesting knowledge about food and our immune systems. Something I found a bit hard was putting all the bottles into the correct order when we were given a task.

Please leave a comment on my blog,
Many thanks!

15 Minutes Freetime

We had just come back from Morning Tea. We were supposed to go down to the library but unfortunately there were already people using it so we didn't know what to do. Ms Komor gave up the choice to choose what we wanted to do. It was also my friend Metui's birthday. We all got the opportunity to put our hands up and choose what wen wanted to do for 15 minutes. Since it was Metui's birthday  Ms Komor let him choose what we were gonna do. He chose to go outside and have free time. I went with the boys and played rugby while the girls played on the playground. The game was pretty tight. There was only 7 people in each team. In my team there was Fa'amanu, Gary, Kenneth, Metui, Mana, Vuni and I. In the opposite team there was Metui, Royd,  Sifa, Sene, Matthew and more. After the game our team got grief after we lost. When we got back to class we started making reflections about what we did. I had a lot of fun outside today. I just have more thing to say:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR METUIIIII, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.
HIP HIP, HOORAY .

Kiwican ! x

Today was our first day back at school and I'm so excited.
Wa also had our first Kiwi Can session. It was so fun. We did a couple of activities * games based on our 4 main school values. Rangimarie ( Peace ), Tuku Marie ( Tolerance ), Manaakitanga ( Caring for others) and Whanaungatanga ( Building Relationships ). We discussed how we could show these values at home, school or in your community. Here are some examples:

Rangimarie: You may have friends that have beef. It can annoy you a lot because you may plan a lot of things but they don't go to plan because of your friends arguments.  So get them to sit down and talk. They can sort some stuff our like that. It may get a little loud but the volume will drop. Trust me I've been in your situation several times. Get them to say sorry to each other and everything will be fine.
P E A C E  I T  O U T !

Tukumarie: There may be students at your school with different beliefs. Respect those beliefs ! Don't just hate or dislike somebody because they're different. Nobody's the same, everybody's unique and different in their own way !

Manaakitanga: It you're playing a game or something with your friends and somebody asks to play but your friends say no, encourage your friends to let them play so nobody feels left out.

Whanaungatanga: There can be new kids arriving anytime. Build relationships with them and start a good name for your classroom & school.

There are some examples. Here is a couple of questions...

How can you show these values in your home or community?
1. Help with chores, show some integrity ya'll.
2. Be kind and show respect to everyone in your family.
3. Pick up rubbish, help cover graffiti, and help make you community a better place.

What games were we playing when Mr. M was pointing the spoon?
We did not know the name of the game so we made on up. "THE VALUE SOUP". We named it that because we had a spoon and we had values so we linked them together and got creative.

What did you enjoy at Kiwi Can the most?
The things I  enjoyed the most today in Kiwi Can was watching everybody's role plays to examples of how you can show values outside. My favourite role play would've had to be the boys one because they had a lot of creative and it was a lot of fun to watch. Also it cracked me up.

What did your group share? A rap? A poem? A role play ?
My group decided to do a role play about Rangimarie. It was about 2 boys having a rap battle then one of the boys take it too far and starts going into it too serious and personal. The other boy got offended then started a fight. 2 girls and one boy run in from the crowd and stop the fight. They discuss things and it's alright. But unfortunately our role play didn't go to plan.

Explain and describe what one of the other groups did.
The boys group was about one being drunk and he starts seeing things then he thinks he sees a hot girl ( cheeka ) and he starts to flirt out loud with. Some other dude starts arguing with him over the "cheeka" but really its a man. The two drunk men start to fight and then the "Cheeka"stops it. Then the drunks go "ooooo hello mami" and the "cheeka" said "Dude, I'm a guy" and then the first drunken was like "Damnnnn Daaannniiieelllll" and then the 'cheeka' stopped the fight and then all the arguing was over.

I had a lot of fun at Kiwi Can today.
Hopefully next week we have 2x more fun.

K I W I C A N

Today was our last session of Kiwi Can for the term. We watched Wreck-It-Ralph with Room 10. even though it's a bit young for us, it was ultra squad goals for us. There were moments where we laughed and there were moments where we nearly cried. Even though we've seen the movie more than a 100x , it was an emotional time. Hopefully next time we watch another squad movie.
I hope Mr.M and Miss Latoia have a good holiday.
All the best for them.

Swimming

WALT practise our swimming skills.

Today in swimming, we practised our Backstroke skills and our freestyle skills. Our instructor was not present so somebody else took us for lessons. I did not catch her name unfortunately. In my group is James, Jason, Hereani, Sifa, Irys, Ana, Vuni and I. Our main focus was backstroke. We used the boards to support us. We also tried to do backstrokes with our hands by our sides and only using the strength of our legs. I kind of struggled at the beginning but I got the hang of it in the middle. I really enjoyed freestyle because it’s one of my swimming strengths. I also enjoyed doing dolphin dives. To be very honest, I didn’t really enjoy doing all the backstroke because the water kept on going up my nose and I could feel people looking at me and it really put me off. Hopefully next time we could have some free time and doing some of our own ways of swimming. For example, I really enjoy doing dolphin dives when going down and then going right to the bottom then swaying side to side with my arms. It helps me breathe under water.

Here are some photos of our previous sessions.

I hope you enjoyed my reflection.

Badminton 😋

WALT have control when hitting the shuttle to our partner.
Today we had Kiwisport Badminton 😊. Our instructors were Ben 10 and Keven 11.  Kevin started asking us some questions about what we did last week. Unfortunately I was absent last week soI couldn't attend . After the questions, Kevin told us to get into some skills. First we had to try and control the shuttlecock by ourselves and just try and balance it in the air. Then after that training skill we had to get into pairs. My buddy was Toni. We practised chucking the shuttlecock at your partner and getting them to hit it back to you. We would have to have turns to make sure each other experienced both parts of the training skill. We practised this skill doing front hand grip and backhand grip. Me and Toni had a lot of fun because we kept on missing and started cracking up 😂😂. Our final skill exercise was where we had to kind of challenge each other. We didn’t yet achieve our goal but we hope to next time. I think that next time we should be a little bit more focused instead of being goofy 😏.  We actually had really good skills but weren't using them properly.  We had a lot of funny this morning. Next timeI want to get into some new skills.
